1. What is the capacity of our Cessna 185 seaplane?
Our Cessna 185 seaplane can typically carry up to 3 to 4 passengers along with the pilot, depending on the weight of passengers and gear. Our Cessna has a Belly Pod and a payload of 900-1000 pounds depending on the destination distance.
The Belly Pod is 35”x18”x108” and can handle 300lbs of Cargo with a door opening of 25”x15”
Our two float compartments have a 100lb capacity each and a door opening of 12.5”x20.5” but bags must be water resistant due to small amounts of bilge water in the floats
2. What kind of luggage should I bring on the flight?
Soft sided Luggage is highly recommended, hard sided cases do not fit well in the aircraft and can cause loading issues. Waterproof duffel bags are the best for traveling in southeast. Luggage must be able to fit through a 25”x15 “ opening.
Yeti coolers larger than the Roadie 24 do not fit on the aircraft and will most likely need to be left behind, we have size appropriate coolers at the shop if you need to borrow one. Soft side coolers are preferred or any cooler that can fit through a 25”x 15” opening.
Soft Sided cases for firearms are also highly recommended, we can store large hard sided rifle cases for you at the shop
3. How long is the flight from Ketchikan to Prince of Wales Island?
The flight time from Ketchikan to various locations on Prince of Wales Island typically ranges between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on weather and the specific location on the island.
4. What are the common destinations on Prince of Wales Island?
Popular destinations include Craig, Klawock, and Hollis. Seaplanes can also land in more remote areas for wilderness excursions, fishing, or hunting trips.
5. What happens if the weather is bad?
Alaska weather can change rapidly, and flights may be delayed due to poor visibility, strong winds, or rough water conditions. Safety is the priority, and passengers will be notified in advance if any changes are necessary. Any flights cancelled due to weather will receive a full refund. Don’t worry, we wont leave you stranded.
6. Can we make additional stops during the flight?
Yes, it is often possible to make additional stops on a charter flight, but this should be arranged in advance. Any additional stops will be an extra charge.
7. Are there wildlife viewing opportunities during the flight?
Absolutely. Seaplane flights around Revillagigedo Island and Prince of Wales Island provide chances to see bears, whales, eagles, and other wildlife from the air. Your pilot can provide details on the best spots to view wildlife.
8. Do you offer flights for sightseeing or photography?
We off sightseeing or aerial photography flights to Misty Fjords National Monument HERE.
9. What kind of safety precautions are in place?
Seaplane flights adhere to strict safety protocols, including regular aircraft maintenance, pilot training, and safety briefings for passengers. Life vests are available, Our pilot is experienced in Alaska's challenging flying conditions and has been flying floats for over 10 years.
10. Can I bring fish or game meat back on the plane?
Yes, we have room for six fifty pound fish boxes in the Belly pod of the Aircraft and game meat in bags can be stored in the float compartments.
11. Are there bathroom facilities on the plane?
No, the Cessna 185 seaplane does not have a bathroom. Be sure to use facilities at your departure or arrival locations.
12. Can children fly on the seaplane?
Yes, children can fly, but be advised that our aircraft are very load and can be damaging to young ears. We do not recommend flying with children under five years of age.
Cancellation Policy
Safety is our number one priority. Flights or Fishing Trips cancelled by us, the operator, will be fully refunded. We do operate in light rains and winds, and our experienced pilots and guides makes the decision on whether or not we operate based on if it will be a safe trip that will provide you with an enjoyable tour. We reserve the right to cancel or change any itinerary as weather conditions require. If your cruise ship doesn't show up in Ketchikan or is late and we cannot reschedule, you will be fully refunded
Cancellation policy for all tours and charters (except Anan Bear Tours) . Cancellations made more than thirty (30) days in advance will be fully refunded less a 15% processing fee. Last-minute cancellations with less than thirty (30) days notice are non-refundable.

Failure to meet the representative of Family Air Tours & Hook Up Fly Shop at your scheduled time and location will result in the loss of deposited funds and any remaining balance due will be charged to your credit card.
