Overview Heckman Lake Cabin is a remote, rustic public-use cabin managed by the U.S. Forest Service. Nestled within the Tongass National Forest, this scenic retreat offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the wilderness of Southeast Alaska. The cabin sits on the northern shore of Heckman Lake, surrounded by old-growth forest, steep mountains, and abundant wildlife.
Location & Access Heckman Lake Cabin is located approximately 35 miles northeast of Ketchikan, within the Misty Fjords National Monument. The cabin is accessible only by floatplane or a combination of boat and hiking. Visitors can fly directly to the lake or take a boat to the trailhead on the west end of the saltwater inlet and hike approximately three miles to reach the cabin.

Naha River Fishing The Naha River system provides excellent fishing opportunities throughout the year. From late spring to early fall, anglers can catch cutthroat trout, Dolly Varden char, and steelhead. Summer months bring runs of pink and coho salmon, making for exciting fishing experiences. The river’s clear waters and surrounding forest create a perfect setting for a rewarding day on the water.
